Dear Bouzaid family,

We are shocked and very sad to hear that Tony has passed.
I hope you remember us; we were the host family to Tanya during her stay in America.
We often remember our visit to New Zealand and what a wonderful experience we had with your family over the Christmas holiday - Tony taking us sailing, Joel's birthday, hiking in the fern woods , the peacock that left a "package" every morning on the doorstep and the bull by the lemon tree that Joel so dreaded going near.
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thanks Mike. That was a very moving and very apt eulogy for Tony Bouzaid. He was a very special person and a great representative for Great Barrier. As Councillor for the Hauraki Gulf Islands Ward (1998-2007) I worked closely with Tony in his role as a member and then Chairman of the Great Barrier Community Board. Tony always had the best interests of Great Barrier at heart and was highly respected by Auckland City councillors and officers alike. His combination of business acumen and community spirit helped make his community, political and environmental pursuits the success they were and will hopefully continue to be. Tony was a good friend; a 'doer' not a 'talker' and the Hauraki Gulf is so much richer for his efforts.
